Tuesday AM

Nothing like waking up to the smell of Spam! That's what we did at camp this morning for our opening game - making a scultpure out of Spam!

An eventful night passed as we had a skunk hit by a car in the camp parking lot - which left quite an impression on the camp and the skunk!

This moring was all about Bible quiz. The students worked to study 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 and then competed against each other in a quiz format!!

The girls were big winners !!

Rock a Bye Believer

The first service of Driven Youth Camp started off on a high note with an exciting message from our communicator , Mike Holt.

His message was a wake up call to teens and adults alike - to wake up from our spiritual slumber and stop hitting our spiritual snooze buttons!

Using the scripture text of Romans 13:11-12, Mike challenged all of us to go further in our walk with God and to truly experience all that God's presence can be!

We must overcome our invisible enemies! Here are five to overcome...

1. Enemy of Unbelief

Sometimes we say "It's okay to go almost, but not all the way!"

If we don't believe we will miss what God wants to do - He still performs miracles!!

2. Our flesh

We have to put to death our old sinful selves and move forward with God.

Mike used the example of Aron Ralston, a climber who had to cut off his own hand

when stuck in a cliff to live!

If you don't take sin seriously, you will seriously sin!!

3. An Attitude of Mediocrity

We have a spirit of "Uhh" instead of "Awe"

4. Unbiblical ministries

Too many times churches and youth groups looks for attendance, not discipleship!

5. Our Culture

Truth is not relative - God is the truth! Don't fall into the world's trap!

After a powerful time at the alter where students where breaking free from old attitudes, we had a great time at late night games - involving tug of war and a tire!

Communion - A time to make things right

1 Corinthians 11:23-26

23For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." 25In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me." 26For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.

Communion is one of the essential things we do as Christians. It can be seen as a ritual when performed without much thought, but when we realize all that Communion means it is no longer a ritual. When something becomes a ritual we do it over and over without realizing the significance, but Communion can be a time to make things right with others and with God.

Why are Christians perform Communion?

Communion demonstrates the act of love that God did for us, sending His son Jesus to die for our sins so that we might have eternal life.

Through this demonstration and reminder of God's love for us, we should take the time to show His love to others. Forgiveness of the wrongs done to us can be a great place to start.

There is hope in the act of Communion when we make things right with God and with others. We must be remined of Jesus' sacrifice for us, as we make sacrifices for others. That sacrifice could be forgiveness , our time, or own wants and desires.

God will honor that sacrifice and Jesus' own words remind us to continue in Him for He will return someday!

John 14:1-3

1"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God[a]; trust also in me. 2In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

A New Beginning

It's the beginning of June so that means graduation season. The excitement that this time of year brings to many is unmistakable. Even of you aren't graduating or know someone that is, the thought of a new start and moving forward with life is something that we all can relate to. Many of this year's high school graduates were born in 1991. Do remember some of the events of 1991:

Wow - it was an amazing year, in the midst of that God was in control.

We have seen incredible things this past year as well, from a stock market bust, to the election of our first African American president. Again , God is in control.

Genesis 1:1-5

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 Now the earth was [
a] formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day

God began everything and nothing caught Him off guard, He has not changed!

God always offers us a chance at a new beginning, like a graduate. He knows the plans that He has for us and loves us!

2 Corinthians 13:11

Finally, brothers, good-by. Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you

Paul wrote this goodbye to the ancient church at Corinth. Paul writes for us to aim for perfection and live in peace and God will be with you. That' s so exciting - God will be with us!!

Be faithful and remember God's invitation to us for a new beginning, just as the members of the Class of 2009 are set for a new beginning, God offers us a chance at a new beginning with Him. All we have to do is chose to believe !
